This means our practice for the coming year will be 8-11pm on Mondays and 6-10pm on Fridays. As always, please be courteous to others having to share our courts. I'll see you all on the court for our first day of practice, Friday 8/27. Also, just a reminder to sign up for SmashBash (see below) if you intend to play.

Hi everyone. First of all, we still need volunteers for the USAB Senior National Tournament, so contact me if you want the best seats in the house. Second, there is a slight change to our practice schedule in that we will be sharing with table tennis on both Mondays and Fridays, so please do not be rude to these participants. We're thinking of possibly moving our practice times to a different slot, so please take the following polls as I want to know what your opinions are in this matter. Weeknights are completely filled, and the followings are the only time slots sill open. Let me know what you think:
Thanks everyone. I'll keep you posted if we make any changes.
Cheers.

Happy New Year, everyone! GREAT NEWS! The USA Badminton Senior National Tournament will take place in Tucson (in fact, right in the Student Rec Center!) on March 17th-20th. Even though it's a senior tournament, the age limit is only 35 and over, meaning some very good players will be making appearances. This is your chance to witness national-level badminton, as well as show the players and visitors a taste of Tucson hospitality! Show up to watch, or to help run the tournament (and get the best seats!). Your help is needed in the following positions:
Messenger: Make sure everyone knows where they should be and which games are being played.
Sweeper: Keeps the court surfaces clear of feathers.
Line judges (24 if possible): Make all the calls and be hated for it.
Monitors: Maintain the snack room and make sure everything goes smoothly.
Referees (6): Keep score and control the flow of each match. Training will be provided.
Aside from these, any help to set up/clean up will be greatly appreciated. Even if you can only volunteer for part of a day, let me or Don Fry (don.jackie@gmail.com, 404-4670) know. Also, if you have an unused guest room/floor space and want to play host to players/visitors, this would also be greatly appreciated.
LOGO DESIGN CONTEST
The tournament requires a logo, and to that end we're sponsoring a contest! See entry form. The prize will be a $50 gift card! Entries must be submitted by next Saturday (2/6), so sorry for the late notification. Feel free to submit as many entries as your creativity will allow!

The Badminton Exhibition at the Northwest YMCA was a great success. Thanks to the Tucson Badminton Club, and especially Don Fry, for organizing this great awareness event. Pictures are loaded, so check them out.

Also, it is not too late to get shirts or donate to Aileen's fund directly. Let me know if you're interested.
Also, the Fall SmashBash is coming up (10/17). Check the tournament section for more details.

The hours for the fall semester are finalized: Mondays 8-10pm (ONE side), Fridays 6-8pm (BOTH sides) and 8-9pm (ONE side). These hours will take effect 8/28. Note that we do not have practice on Monday 8/24 due to WildCat Night. Please stick to schedule if you come to practice and be courteous to others sharing the courts. Hi everyone! I've heard from Guy Chadwick up in Phoenix, and he's actually planning the Fall SmashBash for September 19th (save that date until you hear otherwise). So as not to conflict with this tournament, we're moving the Aileen Primero Memorial Tournament (see last entry) to, tentatively, October 17th. Below, of course, is the obligatory poll, so let us know if you can make this new date!

We have a tentative date (9/12) for our next tournament. All the proceeds to this tournament will go to the Aileen Primero Endowment Scholarship. Aileen was a member of our club who passed away in a traffic accident when a vehicle lost control and ran into her. Her sorority is trying to set up a memorial fund to give out as scholarships, and we're hoping to be able to help them towards that end. For a video tribute to Aileen from her friends, go here.

Just a reminder that this coming Friday through Sunday (7/10 - 7/12), the Rec Center will NOT be available due to a summer camp. This coming week, we will only have Monday (7-10pm). Also, for those who come on Sundays, please keep in mind that the Rec will not open until 12pm from today on, and that we will NOT have reserved court space, so please be courteous to other gym participants.

Hello all! Since only a handful of Tucson folks were able to make a showing at the recent Grand Canyon State Games, there won't be a pictures section for that. Also, Krishna Ramasubramanian, our good friend in Phoenix, will be leaving for California soon, so we want to wish him the best of luck in the future.
Krishna (center) will be leaving for greener pastures, and we wish him well
The fall semester is quickly approaching, and we're thinking of putting together a regular training session for 8-12 players on Fridays once school has started. This training will be free of charge, but the limited slots means it's first-come first-served. For more information, or to sign up for the listserv and receive future notices from our club, email uazbadminton@gmail.com.
Cheers
